Medicine strike

Today was NOT a walk in the park, but the fifteen minutes we spent at the park were probably the highlight of the day.

Max refused (spit out) his medicine all day and was clearly in a lot pain.  The poor kid could not even swallow his saliva and hardly ate or drank anything.  He rivaled Kira's teething drool, but had her beat in the tears department.  At bedtime he finally succumbed to taking the meds and by the time his stories were over he felt much better and was starving!  Down he went for some pasta and hopefully he will sleep through the night, or at least past 1:00am.

Out of Max's five (5!!!) surgeries, this is far and away the worst, and when it is bad for Max it is bad for everyone.

Playing amd drooling (and not crying!) at the playground

Kira went down the big slide all by herself!

No doubt the Amphora patrons were thrilled to have us dining there.

Boo boos

Today was a busy day of caring for kids on the mend.  Max continues to have ups (sugar/Gatorade highs) and downs (medicine refusal and subsequent pain) with his tonsillectomy recovery and little Kira's mystery boo boo got even worse today.  We deduced that the injury on her hand must be a rug burn; as if having a rug burn covering your entire hand is not bad enough, she scrapped all of the raw skin off on her snack container this afternoon.  Ouch!!!!

This one does not let anything keep her down!

Max is obsessed with taking pictures [of himself]

TGIF

Good morning!

Max is concerned about the mystery boo boo on Kira's hand. It is pretty scary looking but it does not seem to bother her.

Max went on a movie date with grandma to see Zootopia in 3D!  The movie was ok but the candy was great.  Max's throat is still very sore and be really cannot eat much...except candy!  Luckily there are lots of candies that qualify as part of his "soft diet".

Hoods crack Kira up!

Another PJ play date with Timmy; Max was so happy to finally hang out with his friends for a little while tonight.

Mouth!

Kira gets so excited when you ask her to point to her mouth.  She is equal parts low maintenance and adorable in the entertainment department.

Mouth!
Mouth!

Max had another great day with grandma!

...and another afternoon like this with mom.

Max plucked the single bloom from the flowers downstairs, brought it upstairs, and told mommy they should hold it together.

Daddy told Max he was going to the accountant tonight, and Max said, "the Count?  Like from Sesame?"

Baths make everything better!

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

Kira witnessed democracy in action for the first time today, and she loved it [the 'I voted' sticker]. Max got through the night with little incident, but had a pretty rough day.  He had some glimmers of his hyper, outfit changing self, but he mostly moaned and listlessly wandered around the house while mommy followed him around with a myriad of liquids and tried to keep his eyes glue to the television.

Max insisted on sleeping in 'Uncle's room' aka the pull out sofa in the den.  We woke him up for medicine a few times during the night, but he did not wake up besides that, which was great.

Max's meal selections consisted of milk, chocolate pudding, applesauce, melted ice pops in a cup, apple juice, Gatorade, and water.  He also managed a Dunkin Donut and several gummy bear vitamins.

Max made a delicious caterpillar cake with grandma.

It is tough to keep this kid in bed even if he is exhausted, dehydrated, hungry, and in pain.

A midday bath was just what Max needed.  He felt good and had fun for 30 minutes while also getting the hospital stink washed off.

Kira was thrilled to see Max after school and she thoroughly enjoyed our walk to the primary election polls.  Max was not as excited, but he perked up a bit at the playground on the way home.

Kira was hysterically laughing the entire time she was in the swing.

Adios, tonsils

Breakfast of champions!  All the clear "foods" Max could eat before 9am

Kira munched on grapes while Max was still excited about his jello-only diet

The morning commute was exhausting

"This is my tunnel mouth doctor!"

Max put strawberry Chapstick in his mask to make it smell better.

Doctor dress-up

Let's see those tonsils one more time

All done!  Despite his open eyes, Max was fast asleep in recovery.  In fact, his eye lids were taped shut during the surgery because they were so open.  The doctor said that it is not uncommon to tape kids' eyes shut during operations, but that Max's wide open eyes were a bit unusual.

Chocolate pudding for the road, and for dinner and dessert.  Max loved the wheel chair and begged to take it home.  It was actually much easier to push than the stroller, but we could not fit it in the trunk.

Max is supposed to refrain from running and jumping for two weeks.  He could not go two minutes without doing either of those things.  Here, he is protesting his orders to stop running up and down "the court".
